Fred - welcome back; thanks for the note. My push-back and re-focus comes in the form of reminding myself of a universal law: What I focus on, expands. It is, after all, how I handle apparent setbacks; and the required resilience - that makes the difference. By choosing to focus on the great and good things in life; you're choosing what will likely expand. I think that focusing on the negative brings about bad internal body chemistry and disease. I'm prone to being optimistic; that's just my outlook. I have some sour, dour friends who I refer to as pessimists - they, of course, insist that they're merely "realists"; - Happy New Year - and thanks for remdinding us all about what's really important

Glad to have you back, Fred. Speaking of Wally, how many car mechanics will drive to your place of business to pick up your car to work on it? And not think of it as such a big deal. A true, native-Vermonter Yankee. I'm going to miss him.

Oh Fred, you know that even though HIS eye IS on the sparrow (even the one that was violently attacked by the killer bird), it does NOT mean the sparrow (or us) are spared from harm. Watching does not equal protection from all harm.

Now, as for common sense, you and I know it is not that common. :-)

I loved the story about Franklin. I don't go into town that often..but...when I do....I see the same things you have. Especially the fountain I used to play in as a child. Your writing is outstanding and you have caught the TRUE meaning of what "Home" is. You are always drawn back no matter how far away you are or even for how long. I really appreciate the fact that you remember your grandmother. As my Mother, I see the same as you do every time I visit her. The "Garden" is her life. She brought the 9 of us up in it. It was once said, at one time, her yard was such a mess...she replied at that time, "Yards are for raising kids" not fancy flowers. After all the kids left she did create a beautiful garden that will always stay in our mind and heart. You've come a LONG way Fred. Be SO proud of yourself. But don't forget I was the one who put the towel around your neck so you and Scott could play Bat Man and Robin. LOL God Bless you and your family. I hope to see you the next time you come "Home"

Fred:

Thank you for your thought provoking article. It is a bit of a heavy hitter for a Monday morning, but I think I am up to it. :)

Have you ever read a book called "The Shack" by William Young? If not, I strongly recommend it. As you know, I am not a great proponent of Christianity, but this book certainly does put some perspective on things and suggests some answers to "the big questions." My beliefs are a mix of several different "organized" religions with a heavy dose of my own perspective. This book seems to cover many of the questions I have. No one has any way of being certain of the answers, but Mr. Young has some very good ideas. Check it out.

Take care and have a great week.
