“Only by awakening can you know the true meaning of that word”… Elkhart Tolle

In the process of fulfilling a dream of renovating an older home, I was talking with Pete at the local lumber store when the conversation turned to sleeping dreams.  Pete asked me if I dream in color.  He said that he dreams in black and white.

This really caught me by surprise because I had never imagined that anyone had limited dreams.  The next question I asked caught Pete completely by surprise.  I asked him if he flies in his dreams.  I explained that in my dreams, I spread my arms and fly like a bird.

Over the last week,  I have asked several people about their dreams and found that some people dream in color, some in black and white, some people can fly and some claim not to dream at all.

Back to dreaming in color,  I learned a number of years ago that I see a very large spectrum of colors.  I live in a very beautiful colorful world.  This is not true of many people…for some reason their ability to recognize colors is limited.

Maybe this ability to dream comes with my ability to sleep.  I jokingly say that I try to wait unit my head touches the pillow before going to sleep.  I can sleep peacefully anywhere with one exception…when I am worrying about my snoring bothering others.

On numerous plane trips,  I have gone to sleep upon boarding and awakened when we were told to prepare for landing.  When people ask, “How was your flight” I never know because I dreamed peacefully through it.   Waking up in San Diego is always pure bliss.

Back to dreaming…everyone is born with the ability to dream just as they are born with unlimited intelligence and potential.  Life comes with this dreaming potential.  Cultural beliefs  and society often smother and limit this ability.  In the same manner formal “education” often smothers real intelligence and free thinking.

There has been much written lately about “Awakening the Dreamer” in each of us.  We were all born with a dream…a purpose of living.  We have found that we have been sold “The American Dream” which has turned into “The American Nightmare.”

Dreams come in pictures.  The mind processes in pictures.  Why else would we so enjoy watching videos and television?  Pictures and visions are contagious because they become true in your belief system when you see them.  Reality becomes the picture in your mind.   Picture yourself living the life of your dreams and that will become your reality.

Everywhere we go and everything we do is first created as a picture of possibility in our minds and belief systems.  Create beautiful pictures (dreams) in your mind and they will manifest in our lives.  Rotten lives are created by stinking thinking.

Living Well is awakening to the dream for your life.  What have you always wanted to do?  What kind of life do you want?  What brings you real happiness?  What sends a shiver of bliss down your spine when you picture yourself there?  There are others out here waiting to support your dream.

Often I hear people say, “I just want to be happy.”  Happiness is an emotion not a dream.

It is never too late to awaken to the dream as long as you are breathing.  Every day is a chance to change our lives.  Our lives are going to change regardless of whether we take personal responsibility or not.  The difference comes when we dare to dream.

This is the purpose of Living Well Support Groups…to support each other’s dreams.  I have traveled across this county dozens of times by car and plane but on every trip, I have had a destination and support in getting there…whether it was service stations to purchase gas or airports to board and change plans.

Many years ago, I was living in Birmingham and dreaming of Escondido.  It was cold outside so I tacked a very large map of the United States on my bedroom wall and put a stationary bike in front of it.  Each day I rode the bike and tracked my miles on my map while dreaming of where I was on my trip.  In July, the opportunity came to go to El Paso and that was so close that I drove on to Escondido.

It is always amazing how many people go through life without a destination or support in getting there.  Think how depressing it would be if I said I wanted to go to California and each morning I get up and go in a different direction for half a day before getting frightened about the trip and turn around to go back.  Think about how we support our dreams.

Support is the main reason that most people are not successful in changes in their life. Just as Support Groups have been proven to be the most effective means of making lifestyle changes with addictions, everyone needs the love and compassion of a Support Group in awakening to their dreams of life.

What limitations do you have on your dreams?
