You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of. – Jim Rohn
Genesis is a word that signifies the “the book of beginnings.” Beginnings give us the opportunity to create a new life story. Our life story does not depend on the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind but upon how we respond to those things.
If we are dissatisfied with the story of our lives, we can take personal responsibility and create a new life story. Acknowledging that there is no one or thing out there to blame for the conditions of your life is the first step of Genesis.
If we are looking for someone or something out there to fix and save us…bad news…this is an inside job. When you give responsibility for fixing and saving away…you are under their control.
There is a major difference between taking personal responsibility for the wellness in your life and going on a diet. New years resolutions and diets don’t work because we are not made to be losers or lose charge of our lives.
You choose the life you live by your vision and your words.
What does the story of your life look like?
Where do you live?
Who shares your life?
What is your profession or work?
What activities do you love?
What service can you give the world?
What special talents or abilities do you have?
What are you passionate about?
A friend of mine, (namedropping) Mindy Audlin, started a club which is called, “What If …UP” that works on the idea that since many people tend to worry about what if bad things happen, she teaches the reverse thinking.
Taking personal responsibility does not mean that you have to go it alone. Loneliness and fear of being alone without support is the major issue behind the social issues that plague our world…addictions, abuse, single parenthood, and gang behavior including bullying in schools.
What if everyone took personal responsibility for being part of the support group that addressed these social issues? Wellness of the Earth starts with wellness of individuals.
Support is the main reason that most people are not successful in making wellness changes in their lifestyle. Just as Support Groups have been proven to be the most effective means of making lifestyle changes with addictions, everyone needs the love and compassion of a Support Group in making Wellness Lifestyle changes.
What if…every Church and community had a Living Well Support Group which was open to everyone on a love offering basis? Each week, there would be a different practical instructive program on wellness through environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment. Wellness is a learned skill that must be practiced daily and what better place to learn this skill than a loving support group.
