I am courageous and clear. I speak words of truth and power. Rich divine ideas flow through me to bless and prosper all mankind… from: Daily Affirmations by Edwene Gaines
Living Well is the freedom to live in a colorful world and be open to accepting all colors as beautiful without limitations or applying special value to specific colors. Wellness like Nature is alive with color…green grass, blue skies, orange sunsets, sandstone rocks, gold sunlight, purple posies.
Nature loves to display color and one of the most awesome displays occurs with the sunrise. From experiencing dawn in the California-Nevada deserts to watching the sun rise over a misty lake in Kentucky to the vision of ten thousand flamingos taking flight with the sunrise on the Island of Bonaire, Nature starts each new day with a glorious show in living color. Nature gives color freely without regard to race, culture, education or financial status.
For those of us who have been talking about and advocating environmental sustainability for many years it was an easy way to connect by forming Green Teams. As with many good ideas…the use of Green has now become the word for selling products without regard to their ethical value to society such as lawn service companies and products (I almost wrote lawn care, but that would be an oxymoron) which use the term Green in their name. In truth they are using deadly chemicals in areas where small animals and children are likely to be exposed without regard to air or water quality.
Last summer I attended a meeting called “Green to the Moon” where part of the discussion was about spending $45,000 on a rocket spark plug. It only took a few minutes to realize that the only thing green about this meeting was the color of money unless we are all planning on living in space when Earth is no longer able to support life.
The study of color and its affect on behavior is widespread and I have friends who have spent years researching and writing about the subject of color. There are many books and experts on the subject such as (name-dropping) Lea Brit, a former advertising guru who gives fascinating insight into how large corporations motivate consumers to buy with color.
The foods we purchase and prepare for our families are filled with color. We have a choice of eating naturally colorful foods filled with nutrients that the body can digest and use to maintain health but in the stores we are bombarded with artificial chemicals and man-made chemical dyes disguised as food. If you question this, read the ingredients on the back of a cereal box designed for children. This is another industry based on green as the color of money.
Colors are also used as a show of unification between members of the same gang, team or social group. Ordinarily the colors used for these purposes fall more into the artificial man-made physical colors than those shades and hues found in nature. Common colors adopted by group mentality include black, navy blue, gray and dark reds. These colors once marketed toward adults are now commonly seen on small children.
Colorful people are one of the joys of life. Colorful people come in all ages, nationalities, genders and sizes and I am sure that every one of you can think of someone who fits this description. They are the people who light up a room when they enter because you never know what they will be wearing or the fun and laughter they will be creating.
When I get the opportunity to watch early morning television, I choose (name-dropping) Creflo Dollar. He is always entertaining, inspiring and colorful. He knows how to live well and has dedicated his life to teaching others by being real and authentic. He often points out the difference between laughing with people and creating laughter at the expense of anyother’s feeling.
Living Well means becoming aware of what colors your life…is it real and natural or is your life filled with artificial toxic man-made imitations of color. How do you make the choice of color? Have you put limitations on your life by putting limitations on your colors of choice.
Living Well with color is environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling.
Love, Light & Lots of Laughter…Joa
